Educational Webinar Series • Free Online Event • 2 Sessions
In modern society clothing has evolved far beyond its original functional purpose. For many people a wardrobe has become a reflection of identity, lifestyle, emotional state, and social belonging. Purchases are often driven not only by practical needs but also by emotional impulses such as stress relief, the desire for novelty, or the need to reinforce self-confidence.
However, the emotional reward from a new purchase tends to fade quickly. Many individuals experience a recurring cycle: excitement when buying something new, temporary satisfaction, and then the gradual realization that the wardrobe continues to feel chaotic or incomplete. As a result, people often accumulate large amounts of clothing that they rarely use.
Academic research in consumer psychology, fashion studies, and behavioral economics between 2023 and 2026 suggests that impulsive clothing purchases are frequently linked to emotional regulation, social comparison, and the influence of digital media environments.
One approach that has gained popularity in response to these patterns is the capsule wardrobe concept—a smaller collection of versatile clothing pieces that can be combined in multiple ways. While this concept may reduce decision fatigue and unnecessary purchases, it can also become another source of pressure if treated as a rigid lifestyle rule.
This webinar series offers a calm and research-based exploration of the psychological factors behind clothing consumption, emotional attachment to garments, and the desire to build a wardrobe that supports personal wellbeing rather than stress.
The project does not promote fashion brands, product recommendations, or shopping strategies. Instead, it focuses on understanding the internal mechanisms that shape our relationship with clothing.
